Rosie Perez
Rosie Perez, born Rosa Maria Perez, September 6, 1964 is an American actress and choreographer. Her biggest breakthrough came from Tina's character in Do the Right Thing (1989), and then White Men Can't Hop (1992). Perez's performance as Tina , in Fearless (1993) was rewarded with her nominations for the Academy Award, Best Supporting Actress and other accolades. It Could Happen to You (1994), The Road to El Dorado ((2000), Pineapple Express (2008) and Birds of Prey (2010) are her most prominent part in films.
Perez received three Primetime Emmy Award nominations (in 1990-1994) and another Emmy Award nomination for her role in The Flight Attendant (2020-2024). Perez has appeared in Broadway stage productions like The Ritz and Frankie, Johnny in the Clair de Lune and Fish in the Dark. In the 18th season she was also the co-host of ABC's talk show The View.
Early life
Perez was born on 6 September 1964, in Brooklyn to Lydia Perez (a merchant mariner seaman) and Ismael Serano (a Bushwick neighborhood resident). [3][4][55 Lydia Fontanez was her name. Lydia Fontanez Reyes was her mother. Her birth date was October 13, 1939 in Humacao. Her father was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Arturo Perez, her mother's husband, was twenty years older than her. Her mother already had five children when she fell pregnant with Rosie after an affair with Serrano. Perez was born in the now closed Greenpoint Hospital, Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn.
Perez is one of the ten children her mother borne. Rosie and her siblings grew up in Bushwick while their mother was frequently in jail. Her mother gave birth to her youngest child while incarcerated. She was for a time being cared for by an aunt afterward, as did her siblings, she went through foster homes and group homes. She and her siblings were often divided. She was put in the group foster home and was in foster care in New York until she reached the age of eight. It was legal to consider her an ward by the State of New York from age 12 onwards. Her aunt and mother often visited her, and her father tried unsuccessfully to claim custody of her.
